How the number gets here
The machine
The PLC writes its numbers into little numbered boxes. Box DM0 holds the parts count.
The messenger
A small computer beside it asks "what is in DM0?" once every second, and writes the answer down.
Out, never in
It posts the notes to the web. Nothing on the outside can reach back into the machine.

You watch the numbers move, from anywhere.
